|Tobacco 21 (T21) in Arizona
|Tobacco 21 or T21 is a fairly new tobacco control effort in Arizona however it is gathering momentum. On 06/02/2016 Yavapai Anti-Tobacco Coalition of
Youth (YATCY) educated the Cottonwood City Council to pass an ordinance to raise the age to purchase tobacco products and e-cigarettes from 18 to 21.
Cottonwood is Arizona's 1st T21 Community! Effective 08/11/17 we are very proud to announce that the Cochise County Youth Health Coalition (DCrew)
educated the Douglas City Council to also pass an ordinance to raise the age to purchase tobacco products and e-cigarettes from 18 to 21. Douglas is
Arizona's 2nd T21 Community! Effective 09/01/19 we are again very proud to announce that Coconino Anti-Tobacco Students (CATS) and Arizona
Students Aiming for Prevention (ASAP) educated the Flagstaff City Council to adopt a national role-model Tobacco 21 Policy at the City Council meeting on
July 02, 2019 and they passed it unanimously! Flagstaff is Arizona's 3rd T21 Community! On 09.23.19 the Goodyear City Council passed a Tobacco 21
ordinance. Goodyear is Arizona's 4th T21 Community! On 10.22.19, and after over a year of consideration, the Tucson City Council voted 6-1 to also
adopt a national role-model T21 policy/ordinance. Tucson is Arizona's 5th T21 Community!

Note: On December 20, 2019, the President signed legislation to amend the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, and raise the federal
minimum age of sale of tobacco products from 18 to 21 years. It is now illegal for a retailer to sell any tobacco product – including cigarettes,
cigars and e-cigarettes – to anyone under 21. FDA will provide additional details on this issue as they become available.
